Meet A Sale Committee Member

Recently Parent Talk asked two of our sale committee members, Ellie B. and Karin D. to answer some questions about their experience volunteering for the Parent Talk Used Clothing, Toy & Equipment Sale both as a committee member and as a shift volunteer.  If you are interested in learning more about the sale or signing up to volunteer CLICK HERE.  There are still some prime volunteer Saturday shifts available on sale weekend! Sign up here and get a spot!

Parent Talk: Why Do you Volunteer For the Sale?

Karin:  I love to meet new people who are all working toward a common goal. Parent Talk is such a great cause that brings many people together who wouldn't potentially meet.

Ellie: I volunteer for the Sale for many reasons. I have benefited so much from all that Parent Talk offers (from playgroups for both my kids to many afternoons spent at the playspace to attending PT events and lectures) that I wanted to contribute my energy and time to one of Parent Talk's big events and fundraisers. Being part of Sale weekend and the Sale committee is such a fun way to meet other people who share similar interests but whose kids may be different ages from mine, or live in a different town, so our paths hadn't yet crossed. I love the perks of being able to shop early and score the best deals on games, clothing, gear, toys, and so much more.

Parent Talk: What is your Favorite Part of Sale Weekend?

Karin: Starting a shift with strangers, laughing with them all night, and leaving with friends.

Ellie: My favorite part of Sale weekend is Saturday morning right before the doors open to the public. It is so exciting to watch everyone lining up outside with their coffees in hand eagerly waiting for the doors to open and the shopping to begin. I love chatting with people in line about where they came from and how many Sales they've been to before. I love helping to pass out garbage bags for shoppers to fill, hearing what they hope to find inside and how many children they have. The calm before the thrilling shopping storm! :)

Parent Talk: What was your first Sale Volunteer Experience?

Karin: My first experience was in October of 2011. I had had my first son the previous May and was looking to meet newer Moms in the area. It was pouring rain and I was involved in transporting goods from the POD to the church. While we were all soaked going back and forth, our cheeks hurt from laughing all night while we slipped and slided along the way.

Ellie: My first experience with the Sale was several years ago as a new Needham resident and new Parent Talk member, volunteering for a 2-hr shift on a Friday night before the day of the Sale. I was AMAZED at how much coordination, volunteer effort, organization, and fun went into the whole Sale. I was impressed by all the ladies in the purple shirts on the Sale committee and wanted to learn about how to get more involved at making this incredible day happen.

Parent Talk: What is your role is this year's Sale?

Karin: Volunteer Committee Chair

Ellie: This is my second time on the Sale committee. I had a blast at the tagging party where we helped price and tag many donated clothing items to get them ready for the Sale. I also helped distribute flyers all around town in local businesses to help get the word out about Sale weekend. Such a fun way to interact with local shop owners and see first-hand what a great reputation Parent Talk has in the community. I look forward to working Sale weekend including a cashier shift for the first time.
